Temperature
The waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea are warm at all times of the year. The area experiences no great extremes of temperature. Winters are warm and sunny and summers are hot, but without excessively high temperatures so that heat stress is rarely felt. This equability of temperature is a consequence of the strong influence of the warm ocean waters. Daily sunshine hours average from seven to nine, with more hours in the driest months.

Precipitation
Even during the wettest months, it should not be thought that it rains a lot. Clouds may build up in the evening giving short thunder showers. However, prolonged spells of rain are rare.

Storms
The worst types of weather that may occur are tropical storms or hurricanes. They occur between June and November and are most common in the months of August and September. During the worst of these storms, between 10 and 20 inches of rain may fall over a period of two or three days and violent winds may cause damage. The storms develop east of the Caribbean and move westward before curving north and east, close to the North American mainland. The favorable location of the Turks and Caicos islands often spares it from these storms. A map of all the 1995 storm paths shows how the Turks and Caicos islands are usually missed.

Simply stated, the Turks and Caicos islands are a tropical paradise.
